9ct Gold Mount Cameo Brooch Vintage Fine Quality Large Carved Shell Portrait (Code A445)

Description

An early 20th Century fine quality shell cameo brooch.  It depicts a young maiden with pearl necklace and vines and grapes in her hair along with a round earring.  It is signed where the shoulder is truncated on the left side, the writing is difficult to make out and may be an Italian name.  The cameo is set in a 9 carat gold mount with safety catch and it also has a small loop at the top which would allow it to be used as a pendant or allow the addition of a safety chain.  The mount is unmarked but tests as 9 carat gold.   A very pretty example of good size and with a very attractive chain style surround to the mount.
