Description

A mid 20th century make up jar with musical lid.  It retains the Art Deco styling and would date around 1950.  The lid features a ballerina which is rotated clockwise to wind up the mechanical movement.  When the pin is released it plays a tune and she rotates.  Unfortunately we have been unable to identify the tune.  The top of the lid is in blue with brass concentric circles.  The movement housing is plastic and the jar is in red glass with enamel detail.  
 

Condition

Winds and plays fine. The push pin for starting and stopping is a bit temperamental.  There is some wear to the blue paint lid and ballerina from handling.  There is a small hole to the lid top which looks like it may have originally had a screw.  A couple of little cracks to the plastic housing which does not seem to affect the item.
