Description

A Victorian period art pottery jug by the Yorkshire firm of Linthorpe.  It is in a treacle glaze with streaked and ombre effect over the moulded body.  The body has raised floral and foliage patterns in low relief.  Yellow glaze to the base with the Linthorpe impressed mark, and a number (1888) which is perhaps the design rather than the date.  Dates to the 1880's.  This pottery was made famous by it's association with Dr Christopher Dresser and Henry Tooth.

Condition

General wear with scuffs and scratches to the glaze.  All over crazing with some fine hairlines to the base and a short descending hairline to the rim.  Some wear and discolouration to the interior probably from being used as a vase.
