Fine Antique Nagina Carved Ebony Work Box - Indian Islamic Colonial Region (Code 0149)
Description
An Indian carved ebony work box from the Northern Nagina Islamic region and dating around 1850-70. It is crisply carved with fine floral detail typical of patterns from this region. The interior features a mirror panel which can articulate out. The interior is divided with various compartment, and it looks like this piece was intended for multiple roles. The original burgundy and green baize linings remain. There is a working lock and key and it also has swing catches.
To the top is a name plate for the likely original owner. A lovely quality item, and a scarce example of original Nagina work.
Condition
Lock works fine, hinges also holding up pretty well. Mirror cracked, but does appear the original. Wear and minor losses to wood trim on the internal fittings. Small loss to carved panel at the back left corner (as viewed from front). Normal wear, slight knocks and losses. Generally presenting very nicely as can be seen.
