Description
A beautiful original Art Deco period silver cigarette case hand painted in enamels. It features a bathing nude female in a lakeside scene with distant mountains and some foliage in the foreground. Lovely tranquil tones and enamelled over a radial engine turned silver top which gives a sunray effect when rotated through the light. The interior is gilded and has an elastic strap. The case is hinged to the left and has a spring clip closure to the opposite side.
Outside on the case are Egyptian hallmarks for production in Alexandria with the date letter for 1926 and the mark for 800 grade silver. On the inside of the case lip is a further mark, possibly the makers mark. The scene is of course most unusual for production in Egypt and the first of it's type we have seen in 25 years.
Condition
Normal age related wear and light scratches to the silver with some tiny indents to the reverse. Some surface scratches to the enamel and a flake chip to the enamel at the top left corner. Normal age related marks and scratches to the gilt interior.
