Description
A Victorian period bracelet made from vulcanite. It appears to be reflecting the three nations of England, Scotland and Ireland. Having stylised rose, thistle and shamrock. The beads have twin holes for double stringing currently with black elastic. There are of course no makers marks which you would expect. Vulcanite was typically used for mourning jewellery and the matt black effect was particularly appealing for this use.
Vulcanite goes a khaki brown over time when exposed to sunlight. This item exhibits little of this so must have been kept in a box or drawer. There are slight tinges in places but it generally has the original look. Quite a rare item.

Condition: Very good for period. Elastic with frayed edges where tied. Surface mostly still black with slight tinges of khaki in places. A rare bracelet.
