Antique Victorian Rosewood & Mother of Pearl Inlaid Fitted Sewing Box c1860 (Code 2077)

A delightful Victorian period rosewood fitted sewing box with extensive mother of pearl inlay. It stands on four bun feet and has a locking lid, the lock still working nicely. Opening up there is a marvellously detail ruched panel to the inside of the lid in mustard yellow and a green leather surround which has been gilt blocked. Using the pull tab to draw it forward reveals a pouch area for patterns or other paperwork etc. The lift out top tray has various sections, little pull outs for needles and lidded divisions. As you can see in the images it has some objects inside, these came with the box and I will include them for the new owner as a nice personal touch of the items history. Underneath the tray is an open area for larger items to be stored.

A very pretty example with lovely inlay to the exterior. Dates around 1860.



Condition

A nice example and in good condition for the period. Minor wear to the exterior, two sections of the decorative beading missing, visible in the images. Some wear to the interior as to be expected but less than usual for the period. There was likely another lid to the top tray which is no longer present. See images for overall presentation.
