Description
An early Victorian cut steel brooch with faceted studs and ellipse studs. The most unusual part is the small molded blue glass 'gem' in the centre. We haven't previously come across an early cut steel brooch mounted in the manner. The glass is in a flower type shape and appears to be original. It is fixed with a faceted steel stud. The backing is a brass plate as typical for the period and it has a hand made hinge and long pin. This item could be English or French and dates around 1840 to 1850. A very unusual and interesting find.

Weight: 7.57 grams (before packing)
Condition: Good for period with no significant rusting of the steel. Glass gem good with mold lines visible. It has some movement due to the loosening of the stud but not in danger of coming off. Latch hook may be an old replacement.
