Description

A Japanese Satsuma ware vase had painted with bamboo and floral heads.  The vase is of small size but not quite a miniature and could be used as a solifleur.  The lower section of the body has been left plain to show the creamy coloured body.  It has fine crazing which is intentional on Satsuma ware.  There is a lozenge mark to the base which uses katakana script and reads 'Satsuma'.  The use of katakana rather than kanji is somewhat unusual although we do see it on occasion.  It dates to the late Meiji period.

Good order with minor gilt wear and ageing.
