Antique Japanese Satsuma Miniature Bowl Hand Painted Children, Fans & Lanterns (Code 2727)

Description

An antique miniature Satsuma bowl dating to the Meiji period c1900.  It features children carrying lanterns and fans, this is likely in connection to the Japanese fairytale (The Lantern and the Fan) which is about patriarchy and obedience.

The rim of the bowl is pinched to make it look like a flower head when in plan view.  The center is beautifully painted with a flower basket.  This example is unmarked.

Condition

Very good for period, slight gilt wear.
