Description
An inter-war period Japanese antimony box with wood lining. It is in the classical style with putto and looking very Western in style rather than of the country of origin. It is very heavy for the size due to the material used. It appears a little large for cigarettes so may have been intended for cigars or as a larger table box for cigarettes. To the base it is faintly stamped Made in Japan with a logo above which has initials, possibly ISC or similar. Most of these antimony items are unmarked so it is interesting to find one with the stamp as here.
Condition
Wear to the silvering on the lid, with the space around the figures re-painted in silver. Less wear to the silvering around the sides. Minor knocks and indents but nothing serious. Wear to the base.
