Description
A very interesting and decorative 19th century strong box. It is constructed of blackened iron and has koftgari damascene silver inlay (tests as sterling silver). The back features an olanda pattern traditional of Indonesia and the abundant flower vase to the front is also typical of Java or Madura. It dates to the late 19th century.
The lock is unusual in only working on a clockwise rotation and releasing the locking arms at one specific point.
Condition
Some wear as can be seen and some rusting to the base. Lock works fine and it would still work as a strong box. Would make a great desk box or feature piece.
