Antique Indian White Metal & Enamel Cloisonne Betel Nut Slaked Lime Powder Flask (Code 1173)
Description
An early 20th century Indian colourful enamelled white metal flask. It features dancers in the main panels with a textured ground in the guilloche style. These panels are surrounded by mosaic forms using the cloisonne technique. There is a cap which is also enamelled. It would have been used to contain slaked lime powder which is used when chewing betel nuts. There is a mark to the base, possibly a silver rupee section. No shortage of colour and an attractive piece for display.
Condition
Some enamel missing to the blue dancer panels on both sides. Some enamel loss around the top by the cap likely caused by a drop as the cap/thread is pushed over a little. Some damage to the thread, but cap still fits and thread on fine
