Antique Indian Calcutta Silver Repousse Pedestal Sweetmeat Dish - Village Scene (Code 2155)
Description
A very decorative Indian silver pedestal sweetmeat dish. It has a wavy rim and a palm frond knop below the bowl. The main body features a continuous frieze of village scenics over a textured ground. The ox cart is particularly charming, note also the palm decoration around the base.
In keeping with most Indian silver of the late 19th and early 20th century it does not have any makers marks. It tests as a relatively high grade silver, likely .800 standard. The style is typical of items from the Calcutta region during the colonial period. A great collectors piece.
Condition
Very good for period, minor wear, some light scratches to the interior bottom. A lovely example.
