Antique Georgian George III Silver Mounted Coconut Cup with Pedestal Foot (Code 2706)

Description

A coconut cup dating to the George III period.  It has a semi polished nut mounted with a silver rim and silver foot and there is a button mount to the interior.  The silver is not marked, common for these items which were often made by provincial small workers.  The silver tests as sterling grade.  The base has some old foam type material which is not original, but prevents scratches on fine furniture.  The foot is of pedestal form and applied to the base of the coconut.  There are some vertical lines (mostly visible to the interior) which appear to be some original treatment, probably to stabilise cracks which appeared during drying.

Condition

Some indents to the foot collar from crimping the silver to grip the wood mount.  Minor wear.  Loss to shell interior where a pin has gone through to hold the silver rim on.  Original fixes/stabilisation of drying splits.  The odd minor indent to the silver.
