Antique French Kingwood Parquetry Table Box with Brass Bindings & Lock (Code 2681)
Description
A fine quality and very attractive 19th century French table or desk box in kingwood. It has parquetry veneers and brass edging around the serpentine form. The lid is hinged and the front panels are also on hinges and swing open for easier access to the interior. There are divisions to the back of the box to the interior, one having a lid with strung detail. Even the interior of the lid has parquetry detail. There is a large brass lock which is working fine.
The box was likely originally meant for a desk or study, but could of course be used for many purposes including as a jewellery box.
Condition
Very good for period. Minor wear, light scratches but much less than usual for the age. One very small blister to the veneer to one edge near the base. Some verdigris to the brass, left in place as it is quite attractive, but easily removed should you wish to do so. A very fine example.
