Antique Early 20th Century French Exotic Wood Post / Correspondence Letter Box (Code 0507)

Description
A late 19th or early 20th century French wooden post correspondence box. It is of rectangular form with two slots and two matching compartments. It is marked 'Repondu - a Repondre' (answered and to answer). It is veneered in an exotic hardwood which I'm not quite certain of which type and strung (and lettered) with boxwood. It has a working lock and the interior is pink. A nice looking example for the desk or study.
Condition
Pretty much as expected for period and a utility item. Some wear with indents and scratches (worst to top and back). Minor splits and repairs in the veneer. Small piece of stringing missing. Split in the base plank. Interior lining is not original. Brass knop perhaps a replacement as the thread comes through the top a little. Lock a little temperamental. Still a good looking item.
