Antique 18th Century French Faience Pottery Glazed Polychrome Plate c1780 (2965)
Description
A late 18th century French faience porcelain plate in polychrome decoration with blue, yellow and manganese details. Painted with a central roundel with a building with a bridge and perhaps a mayfly in the air. The rim is wave edged and the faience glaze is white with a slight hint of warmth from the pottery beneath. There is a blue mark to the reverse but it is not possible to determine if it is intentional. The style is most suggestive of a Nevers origin.
Condition
Some glaze ships and scuffs around the rim and one larger chip at approx 7 o'clock position. Some kiln grit adhesions and typical glaze flaws as expected for period.
