A Royal Worcester Hand Painted Rural Thatched Cottage Vase - Edwardian c.1908 (code8035)
Descriptio
An early 20th Century Edwardian period Royal Worcester vase. It is beautifully decorated with a hand painted scene of a rural thatched cottage. The image is created from tonal browns and is heightened in gilt for a superb effect. The decoration continues around the vase with a smaller cottage and trees featuring to the reverse.
The neck, handles and foot rim are decorated in sage green with gilt highlights. There is decorative moulding around the rim section with Persian inspiration. The body number is 1109, the design of which dates originally around 1885.
Royal Worcester mark in puce to the underside with date cipher for 1908.
A beautifully decorated example and scarce with this subject matter.
Condition
Very good order for period. Slight wear to gilt in places. No damage or restoration.
Minor colour wash line to lower part of main body just prior to the foot where the artists brush has left a minor trail. Not visible to normal display.
