22ct Gold Cameo Brooch/Pendant Diamond Sapphire & Pearl Hebe feeding Zeus (Code A456)
Description
An amazing cameo brooch/pendant, perhaps one of the most opulent you are going to see. The design is of Hebe feeding Zeus from Greek mythology. She is depicted seated and feeding the eagle. This is of course carved from natural shell. The mount is quite spectacular with the body and loop in 22ct gold. The silver fronted sprigs at the cardinal points are each set with three small mine cut rose diamonds. The outer decoration has twelve gorgeous pink sapphires and twelve seed pearls. The reverse has a safety pin with roll over catch allowing it to be used as a brooch and there is also a suspension loop which can be rotated up to allow it to be used as a pendant.
There are no marks that I can find so it is likely a continental example, perhaps of the inter war period. The gold is tested as 22 carat and all the gemstones have also been checked and tested.
A wonderful item and an amazing opportunity for the cameo collector to obtain a rare and opulent piece.
