Description
A mid Victorian mourning brooch in 9ct gold. To the front it is set with a decorative curled lock of hair and to the reverse it has woven hair. The frame and bezel are 9 carat gold, the fixing pin is not gold. There are no makers details but we have tested the metal. It dates around 1850 and these items are mostly commonly found in brass or pinchbeck so it is nice to find a gold example. It has a standard hinge and c hook closure which is working fine. To the reverse it has a small ring for use with a safety chain should you wish.

Condition: Good for period as can be seen in the images. Hair is good with a few specks of dust under the glass, most visible to the reverse. Hinge and pin working fine. A couple of the original solder joins from construction are just about visible on close inspection.
