Description
A fine Victorian book chain and locket pendant necklace dating c.1870. The fancy chain is a double strand type fused with central decorative details with nodules having faceted tops. The locket is of triple tier again with decorative nodule detail and bright cutting to the top. It is hinged and opens to reveal two reserves for photographs or miniature paintings. The retaining rings are still present and there are plastic covers which would be replacements. There are no makers marks or hallmarks which is common for this type of item. The metal tests as sterling silver. The spring ring is of unusual form for the period and is a snap ring type opening inwards as opposed to the usual bolt ring form.
A fine piece of desireable Victorian jewellery.

Condition: Very good for period with no significant faults. Some period wear as expected. Locket closes tightly. Spring ring working fine. Internal plastic covers will be replacements.
