Antique European Alto Relievo Carved Softwood Box - Vines & Grapes - Swiss c1900 (Code 2852)

Description

A very attractive softwood box with an alto relievo carved lid.  It appears to be in lime wood and is probably Swiss dating around 1900-20.  The work is of a high standard with lovely detail to the twisted vine trunk.  At this size it was most likely intended as a jewellery box or table trinket box.  There is a lock, but no key so the locking mechanism is untested.  The base has green felt which is likely a later addition.  The interior has a golden yellow tone. 

Condition

General period wear, some losses to the leaves in places but nothing which spoils the item.  No key, lock untested.  All in keeping with age.
